A Cut Above brought together Istituto Marangoni students and Hive & Colony’s tailoring atelier to explore a simple idea: What does the suit mean today?
Through this collaboration, emerging designers reinterpreted tailoring not through tradition alone, but through identity, culture, and personal vision.

The Program
Hive & Colony partnered with Istituto Marangoni to open the world of bespoke menswear to a new generation of designers.
Each selected student was given access to the atelier, working with tailoring as both structure and medium.
The suit became a canvas. What they created was something entirely their own.
The Guidelines
Participants were invited to rethink the suit from the ground up. Each submission included:
- Original sketches
- A moodboard
- A written rationale exploring what tailoring means today
Using the traditional suit as a foundation, students reinterpreted it to reflect the current cultural moment through their own perspective.

From Concept to Garment
Selected finalists moved from idea to execution, working closely with Hive & Colony’s team to bring their designs to life.
This stage included:
- Fabric selection and material exploration
- Pattern development
- Multiple fittings and refinements
What began as a concept became a fully constructed garment shaped through precision, iteration, and craft.
